What is the role of sport/physical activity in your life?
This past year (2020) has been hard since a lot of the sports I’m usually involved in had to be shut down for Covid. I’m usually very active in regards to playing hockey, softball, beach volleyball and dodgeball at the university basketball courts. This year I’ve resorted more to outdoor activities; such as swimming, hiking, more walks, etc. Otherwise, when I am working full time my job entails mostly walking all day long.
How do you define wellness?
I believe that wellness means the active state of staying healthy. Essentially what you do in your everyday life to move towards a more healthy and rewarding lifestyle. As we age, wellness becomes a major goal that we need to sustain a healthy and fullfilling life.
What are the things you do each day that make you a ‘Wellness Warrior’
I always try to get out of bed with a positive mindset. Usually, to get me going I’ll have a shower followed by breakfast. I try to make my day revolve around physical activity outside or indoors. Since I’ve been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, I’m super conscious about the food I’m putting into my body. I really try to aim for the 5 food groups throughout my day and limit my portions.
Who or what is your inspiration
My inspiration for becoming a better me is definitely because of my Type 2 Diabetes. I know if I can be more strict with myself, I could control my sugars and weight a lot better.
