[MISSISSAUGA, May 13, 2025] — Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Suthers as the new president of the board of directors, effective April 8, 2025.

A long-standing ISWO board member and respected community leader, Ms. Suthers has played an active role in shaping the organization’s growth over the years. Her dedication to Indigenous youth, sport and community wellness has been consistent and deeply valued. Her appointment reflects ISWO’s ongoing commitment to strong, inclusive leadership grounded in culture and community.

Ms. Suthers also becomes the first woman to serve as president of ISWO’s board of directors. In this role, she will provide strategic guidance as the organization expands its programs and deepens its impact across Ontario.

“I am honoured to step into this role at such an important time for ISWO,” said Ms. Suthers. “Having served on ISWO’s board for many years, I have seen firsthand the impact of our work, and I am committed to continuing that momentum rooted in culture, community and inclusion.”

ISWO also extends its sincere thanks to Carl Orr, former president and current secretary of the board, for his years of leadership and dedication. His tenure saw the strengthening of governance, increased visibility for the organization and the successful delivery of major initiatives supporting Indigenous participation in sport and wellness.

“Carl has been instrumental in helping build ISWO into what it is today,” said Stephen Kwinter, executive director. “His steady leadership and integrity set a strong example, and we thank him for his service.”

As ISWO prepares to launch new programs and unveil its redesigned website, the release of the 2025 to 2028 Strategic Plan marks a bold step forward. The appointment of Laura Suthers signals a new chapter for the organization, focused on continuity, progress and cultural pride.
