What is the role of sport/physical activity in your life?
Sport has been a vehicle to continue to build into the lives of my children and grandchildren, being able to play ball hockey or ride bikes with them is another way for me to grow our relationship. Since I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes, when I participate in sport and physical activity it helps me manage my diabetes. Exercise really does help; it has helped with my blood pressure and managing my sugar levels, it also helps to improve my energy levels. I’ve also found swimming and kayaking to be activities that assist in maintaining my mobility while being used alongside my CrossFit training.
How do you define wellness?
When you are able to move without hinderance, being able to move through day to day life in a way that does not cause pain. Being able to enjoy life with your whole mind, body and spirit.
What are the things you do each day that make you a ‘Wellness Warrior’?
To start each day, I am intentional in getting into a peaceful frame of mind and preparing my spirit for the coming day. I believe that a healthy mind leads to a healthy body. After that I work out and get my body moving and ready for the day.
Who or what is your inspiration?
My inspiration is my family, I try to motivate them to see the importance of exercise and keeping fit, at any age. My girls are my greatest motivation and inspiration.
